Louis-Jean-Baptiste VALLANTIN (Toulon 1782–1856), captain in the Corps of Engineers. Autograph manuscript, memoir; 2 notebooks containing 15 pages in 12° format and 12 pages in 8° format.
Autobiographical notes, beginning with his baptism and his studies at the École Polytechnique, his appointment as a staff lieutenant (1st Nivôse, Year X), and all his campaigns under the Empire (notably Stralsund, the siege of Zaragoza, Spain, Lutzen, Bautzen, Leipzig), his service during the Restoration, up to his appointment as director of fortifications in Perpignan in 1841.
Included is a letter to his father, Metz, 18 Germinal X.
