Thomas Mahy, Marquis de FAVRAS (1744–1790), an agent of the Count of Provence (the future Louis XVIII), was implicated in a conspiracy in 1790 and died without revealing the name of his leader. Letter from the author, Calais, February 15, 1764, to Mr. Cavillier, a merchant in Paris; 1 page, quarto size, with the address bearing a red wax seal bearing the coat of arms.
He asks him for “fine gray-white cloth from which to make me a uniform frock coat” and “material to make blue panne velvet breeches for a servant,” and instructs him to send it via the Calais carriages, for which he provides the address. He signs: “Mahy de Favras, Captain and Adjutant Major in the Belsunce Dragoon Regiment stationed in Calais.” Rare.
