SWISS OR FRENCH ECOLE Second half of the 17th century. Portrait of Théodore Grenus or Grenut (Geneva 1637-1709), Seigneur Syndic and Conseiller d'Etat of the Republic of Geneva (1694). He is shown in bust, slightly three-quarter view, wearing a long wig and magistrate's robes. Oil on canvas (canvas lining, gap towards middle right, some old restorations, old varnish soiled). On the reverse of the lining, an old inscription on the model's identity and titles: Noble Theodore Grenus or Grenut, born 1637, des CC 1660 / auditor 1672 Procr Genral 1694 Cons 1698, Sindic 1706 / died 1709. H. 80.5 - L. 65 cm.
