Étienne CLAVIÈRE (1735–1793), financier and minister; arrest - Lot 12
Étienne CLAVIÈRE (1735–1793), financier and minister; arrested along with the Girondins, he stabbed himself to death. Autograph letter to a count; 1½ pages, in-12 format.
He sends him “what my weary and aching mind has been able to produce. A detailed examination or critique of each project would be difficult and inappropriate. I have contented myself with pointing out their general flaws, and I believe it is useful to condemn this diversity”; moreover, everything must be reread carefully: “I suggest you come to Suresne tonight to work on it”; he will spend the night in Versailles.
