[18th CENTURY RED LEATHER WITH ARMS] GOLDONI Carlo Le bourru bienfaisant, comedy in three acts and prose... dedicated to Madame Marie Adélaïde de France... Paris, Veuve Duchesne, 1771. In-8°, contemporary red morocco, five-ribbed spine, title in full, triple gilt fillet framing the covers with fleurons at the corners, arms of Louis Phélypaux, comte de Saint-Florentin, duc de la Vrillière, gilt in the center of the covers, gilt fillet on the edges, inner gilt roulette, endpapers with gilt floral decoration, gilt edges. Vj pp. including title with vignette bearing the arms of France, dedication and actors, 106 pp. Wood-engraved bands by Beugnet, culs-de-lampe. Handwritten note in pencil on flyleaf: "Vente Choppin n°457 février 1920, acheté pour moi par Rahir avec frais et commission 600". Copy on large paper with wide margins. Some wear to second board. Mottling on the flyleaves and first endpaper, small stains on the title, a few small brown spots and yellowed paper in places. A fine, well-preserved copy. Rare original edition.
