Gilt bronze paper plate (with gold varnish) decorated in the Chinese style with a child accompanied by his mother; (wear). Louis XV period. H : 15 cm, W : 14 cm, D : 8 cm. In addition to clock ornaments, lacquered bronze Chinese figures were also used to decorate paperweights in the 18th century. A similar example, lacquered (and not simply gilded), is now in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (A. Forray-Carlier and M. Kopplin, Les secrets de la laque française, le vernis Martin, cat. exp., Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, 2014, n°57, p. 100-101).
