Beautiful mechanical table in trophy marquetry in amaranth f - Lot 260
Beautiful mechanical table in trophy marquetry in amaranth frames, with a sliding top revealing a drawer containing three flaps, resting on cambered legs originally joined by a brace, with a label: "Baronin Mathilde von Rothschild" (restorations, notably the engraving of the marquetry redone at a later date, missing). Louis XV period. H. 74 cm - W. 60.5 cm - D. 37 cm. Provenance : Mathilde de Rothschild (1832-1924) then her grandson Albert von Goldschmidt-Rothschild (1879-1941), her sale in Frankfurt, March 14, 1933, lot 29. Based on documentary research, the sale of March 14, 1933 was prepared well before Hitler came to power. This documentation is available on request. The gardening trophy in the main reserve of this table top evokes quite directly the style of Jean-Baptiste Huet (1745- 1811), notably through the engravings published in 1772 in the two books "de différents trophées", engraved by Gilles Demarteau. They feature the same type of composition, also held together by a ribbon bow.
