André Pierre LEVASSEUR (1927 - 2006) Costume studies. Set of twenty-seven gouaches on tinted paper, eight signed and one signed with initials at bottom. 50 x 33 cm. André Levasseur began his career as a designer with Christian Dior before making a name for himself as a set and costume designer. Among other things, he designed the costumes for Piège de lumière, a ballet created by the Marquis de Cuevas' Grand Ballet in 1952. In 1956, he was the decorator for the wedding festivities of Prince Rainier of Monaco. He then worked on sets and costumes for the Comédie Française, the Opéra-Comique and numerous Parisian theaters such as: Marigny, the Palais Royal, the Madeleine, the Variétés, Les Bouffes Parisiens, Les Nouveautés...
