This painting is taken from a Faramarz-nameh written around the 11th-12th centuries, recounting the adventures of Faramarz, the son of Rostam and the daughter of the King of India. This epic is strongly influenced by Ferdowsi's Shah-nameh. The manuscript from which this page comes, scattered on the French market for decades, contains several epic poems, including the Shah-nameh, in which it has been interspersed with other stories.
