T'ang Haywen (1927-1991) - Lot 102
T'ang Haywen (1927-1991) Flowering vase of poppies. Oil on isorel. Dated summer 1955, made during a vacation in the Alps at Vénosc. Signed Tang lower left and Haiwen on the vase. Dim. 46 x 38 cm. T'ang Haywen painted this pretty bouquet of wild flowers in the summer of 1955, during a stay in Vénosc, a small mountain village in the Isère department. He has become a traveling painter who, from one friend's house to another, lives the full exercise of his freedom to see and explore the world in a quite "eccentric" way. He is happy, and constantly writes "the little name of happiness in the sky". These flowers, just picked from the fields, are still animated by the wind and shelter a bird that has come to hide in them. Above his signature "TANG 55 Vénosc" he writes in Chinese characters "Un vase de fleurs luxuriantes - dans les alpes -milieu de l'été 1955- peint pendant les vacances", then on the jug he inscribes the characters of Hai 海 and Wen 文, his artist's first name, which conceal or rather feature a cat winking at us. Mr. Philippe Koutouzis confirms the authenticity of this painting, which will be included in the catalog raisonné being prepared by Philippe Koutouzis and T'ang Haywen Archives. A registration number can be obtained by contacting T'ang Haywen. Archives: info@tanghaywenarchives.com
