Louis-Jean-Baptiste VALLANTIN (Toulon 1782-1856) captain of the engineers. Autograph manuscript, Memorial; 2 notebooks of 15 pages in-12 and 12 pages in-8. Autobiographical notes, from his baptism and his studies at the École Polytechnique, his appointment as staff lieutenant (1st Nivôse X), and all his campaigns under the Empire (notably Stralsund, the siege of Saragossa, Spain, Lutzen, Bautzen, Leipzig), his services under the Restoration, until his appointment as director of fortifications in Perpignan in 1841. Attached is a L.A.S. to his father, Metz 18 germinal X.
