VOLTAIRE - Lot 8
VOLTAIRE Elemens de la philosophie de Neuton, mis à la portée de tout le monde. Amsterdam, Etienne Ledet & Company, 1738. In-8° brown basane of the time, very ornate spine with small irons showing hearts (probably recalling the heart of the emblem of the Jesuits), red edges. (1) f. title, 399 p., (1) p. errata. Double frontispiece: portrait of Voltaire and allegorical scene showing Voltaire at work, Neuton and Mme du Châtelet, by J. Folkema after Dubourg. Well completed with 7 plates out of text. 27 vignettes and 22 culs-de-lampe engraved by L. F. Dubourg, J. Folkema, G. Kendet, F. M. La Cave, B. Picart and J. van Scley, 61 figures in text. Handwritten ex-praemio on a vignette printed on the first counterplate of the College of Bourg-en-Bresse of the Society of Jesus with its cold stamp, signed Dubouchet (?), awarded in 1740 to Sébastien Ignace Philibert Marinon de Remondange, later lord of Bouvent and captain in the regiment of Brie, married in 1750 to Pierrette Françoise Pelleterat de Bordes. Second exlibris on the last counterplate, armorial with a cross palmate. A recent note states that this is the bookplate of the de Marinon family. Worn binding: wetnesses notably on the second plate, lacks at the corners and the cuts, small work of rodent in the bottom of the spine. Yellowed paper and spotting on some pages. In the state. First edition.
