François-Clément Moreau, born in Paris, entered the École des Beaux-Arts in 1850, a pupil of Pradier and Simard, he died young, aged 33. Our statue seems to be a counterpart to Mathurin Moreau's "Fée aux Fleurs" of 1852. It is likely that it is a youthful work.
