View of a small canal in Venice. Barque loaded with barrels preparing to pass under the bridge of a small canal. Oil on canvas. On the reverse side mark of the canvas merchant P SOUTY/Doreur Md de Tableaux/Place du Louvre au N° 28. Dated on the lower right side of the boat 1829. On the reverse side of the frame on the upper right side an old inscription in ink Turpin de Crissé. H. 40,5 - W. 30 cm. Wooden frame and gilded stucco of the XIXth century with motif of ovals in the corners and foliage. The Louvre museum keeps a View of the Ducal Palace of Venice (inv. MI 233) by Turpin de Crissé dated 1829, year of his stay in the city of the doges on the occasion of his nomination to the Academy of the Beaux-Arts of the same one (Cf. Turpin de Crissé, catalogue n° 38 p. 102; text by Patrick Le Nouëne and Caroline Chaine - Somogy 2006). Our composition with the bridge over the small canal and its boat loaded with barrels can be compared to the View of the church of San_x0002_ta Maria dei Miracoli in Venice (Canvas; 97 x 73 cm; dated 1837) kept in the Musée d'Angers (cf. idem n° 54, p. 119 and cover of the book).
