Valentine de Sainte - Aldegonde, Countess of Talleyrand - Périgord, and Duchess of Dino (1820 - 1891). Oil on canvas of oval shape. H. 82 - L. 72,5 cm. Beautiful wooden frame and gilded stucco of rectangular shape with palmettes decoration in application of Restoration period. On the left on the frame a small circular label in brown ink Vigée Lebrun. Provenance: 1 - Castle of La Moustière (Indre). On the back of the frame an old handwritten label in pen in_x0002_dique "Given by Madame de Talleyrand to Madame d'Entraigues/ Château de La Moustière s. Indre". 2 - Château les Alliés in Meaulne (Allier); Reprise, with modifications in the hairstyle and the toilet, of the portrait by Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun of Madame Grand, born Noël Ca_x0002_therine Verlée (also called Worlée), who became Princess of Talleyrand - Périgord (1762 - 1834) exhibited at the Salon of 1783 and preserved in the Metropolitan Museum of New York (Cf. Catalogue of the exhibition Vi_x0002_gée Le Brun, Paris, Grand - Palais 2015 - 2016 ; n° 57, p. 173 ; note by Katharine Baerjer). It is the portrait of the latter that served as a model for the one presented here of Valentine de Sainte - Aldegonde, daughter of Count Charles Camille de Sainte Aldegonde and of the Countess, née Adélaïde José- phine de Bourlon, de Chavange, widow of Marshal Augereau, Duke of Castiglione (Cf. Wikipedia.org, which reproduces the portrait).
