Porcelain bowl decorated in blue underglaze in four reserves in the shape of a fan of the flowers of the four seasons surrounding a reserve decorated with a peony on a powdered blue background. On the reverse side, the mark on the sound plate. Diam. 22 cm. On the reverse, singing stone mark. 清康熙 藍地開光四季花卉紋盤 This type of bowl with lotus decoration adorned with jewellery appears during the reign of Chenghua (1465-1487) in Tibetan and Sanskrit, in the city of Jingdezhen. It was found under the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), especially during the reign of Hongzhi (1488-1505), and then under the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), demonstrating the interest of the various emperors in Buddhism and in exchanges with their neighbours. Here, the six characters in Sanskrit adorning the inside of each petal and the centre represent "bija". The outer border is decorated with three lines in Sanskrit. The term Bija comes from Sanskrit and means: seed, germ. Bija mantras are defined as phonemes, known as "seed-syllables", a sound that springs from an energy-creating syllable through the chakras when it resounds aloud. The activated energy thus purifies and balances the mind and body. Sanskrit is a language used in Hinduism and Buddhism. It appears on a limited number of Chinese porcelain for a period of about four hundred years between the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). This type of writing, the Sanskrit Lança, is found in the religious texts of Nepal and Tibet for use by Buddhists.
