Kang MYONGHI (Née en 1947) - Lot 115
Kang MYONGHI (Née en 1947) *Cherry tree Mixed media on paper, signed and dated 21 November 2009/11 April 2010/2010 spring bottom right, annotated Jardin Monet? titled and dated on the back: 11 April 2010 / 21 November 2009 (first flower)/30 March 2009 (first snow 45.5 x 54.5 cm. frame. At the sight: 18 x 25.5 cm Myonghi was born in 1947 in Taegou, South Korea. She arrived in France in 1972 and settled in Provence before moving to Paris in 1973. Her works have been exhibited among others: at the Harry Jancovici Gallery in Paris (1977), at the Seoul Gallery, Seoul (1984, 1992), at the Pompidou Center, Paris (exhibition Korea Masculine-Female Yim Setaik and Kang Myonghi, 1986), at the Art Gallery of this Century, Paris (1987), at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul, Seoul (joint retrospective with Yim Setaik, 1989, 1993), Galerie de France, Paris (1993), Galerie di Meo, Paris (1995), Couvent des Cordeliers, Paris (1996), FIAC, Paris (1998) From 1988 she began to travel a lot: the Alps, Taiwan, Chile, Mongolia from which she draws her inspiration. Her paintings and drawings are marked by a great sobriety, made either from a few strokes or from a few spots of colour, leaving a large space for reserves. Her intimate and very personal works exude great poetry. Kang Myonghi recognizes two masters: nature and white canvas. Myonghi's canvases let the wind pass, the wind of time as well as the wind of storms. "Man is very limited" she likes to repeat with a touch of irritation. But from this knowledge on the brink of the abyss springs here an art of silence, shivering and enigmatic, imbued with the breath of the deep. Beware dangerous painting...
