PAPER PRESS BALL in crystal, with a crystal-ceramic decoration of a portrait of Rouget de l'Isle, in straight profile, on an intense blue background. Around 1850, attributed to Clichy. H. 4,5 cm - Diam. 8 cm. (Tiny splinter underneath). - This portrait of Rouget de l'Isle (1760-1836), author of La Marseillaise, is inspired by a medallion made in 1833 by Émile Rogat (1799-1852), directed by David d'Angers. - The same paperweight with a red background, from the Clichy crystal factory, circa 1850, is reproduced in the collective work "La Cristallerie de Clichy: une prestigieuse manufacture du XIXe siècle", 2005, p. 398, fig. E.
