SOLIMENA Francesco (attribué à) Nocera di Pagani 1657 - Naples 1747. Jacob and Rachel at the well (Genesis 29. 9-10). Black stone, and brown wash. Glued on glass (foxing, pitting and small folds). On the reverse, annotated in pen and black ink SOLIMENE. Initialed on the reverse in pen and brown ink Ex coll : H : Hamal Leod from the Henry Lamal collection (Lugt 1231). H. 16 - L. 18,9 cm. Presumed provenance: the collection of Henry Lamal (Liège 1744 - id.; 1820), a canon, musician and collector, was dispersed in Paris on January 21-23, 1805, and in Liège on March 17, 1824. Related to the composition by Francesco Solimena preserved in Venice in the Galleria dell'Academia (Cf. Giovanna Nepi Sciré & Francesca Valcanover. Gallerie dell'Academia di Venezia, p. 171, n°277 - Electa 1985).
